A Summer Day’s Mountaintop

A quiet place, bewildering
The silence here is breathtaking
The pines and bushes shimmering
Stirred by the air, and bathed in gold

The golden orb is quivering
The clouds around it moving, shifting
The warm silk rays are glimmering
They touch the earth, steady and bold

This silent world is whispering
The thoughts here thought, all lingering
So tranquil, peaceful, ever-calming
Our mother’s garden, youth in the old

Down hills to cities is emptiness
Stuffed cramped yet hollow – worthlessness
Fills minds and thoughts – pure greediness
Hinders joy, bequeaths a hearts’ cold

The bustling lives of her descendents
Won’t let them see past the fluorescence
Their skyscrapers block the silent pines -
And asphalt won’t lead to such a sight

It takes a dreamer who can climb
To catch the silk, feel the light
To see the world, break from the blind
And love what’s left before his time.

Winged Freedom

I call to the birds.
Those whose wings stretch miles wide
and fly, nobly fly, day to night,
o'er mountains, rivers, nature,
through clean and open skies.
I call, I wish and chase and want,
and hope to join them
and pursue my happiness alongside
those gracious wings, those strong wings
chasing sunsets and catching dreams.
but for now, heavy rainstorms keep me from those birds.
murky waters, sticky and thick of mud
holding me down
pushing me down
so I am lower
farther
hidden away from the birds.
yet I call.
to the birds of a different heavy rain -
a sweeter one
a clearer one
nature's beautiful danger, left unrestrained
with wondrous wrath
seeking to disrupt
the birds' empty path.
to be rid of this mud?
to see sweeter, see clearer?
simply able to follow my own empty path?
I'll always call to the birds.

A Dreamcatcher's Sun

I dream of my sun.
my sun, you can borrow it,
live it and love it,
or if you must, drop it,
but only if you must.
for me, I will catch my sun.
I'm not going to make you like it, make you want it,
For I don't wish you to want it,
my sun.
I want you to chase your own.
